I usually paint using acrylic on canvas. Recently, I developed an interest in using colour pencils. I started learning and this is one of my recent works, inspired by another painting. This taught me a lot about using strokes with colour pencils. Hoping to get better with colour pencils.

I started drawing 10 months ago and have focused on drawing people. I loved drawing when I was at school, but they told me I didn't have any potential. So I gave up on it. 44 years later I had an arty itch I needed to scratch and to say I'm now obsessed with it, would be an understatement. I love drawing people who I admire and, let?s face it, Frida Khalo wasn't just an amazing artist, she was a properly fierce chick. Beautiful, talented and relentless. I want to be her when I grow up.

I decided to try painting flowers having been pleased with my first effort back in the spring. "Hydrangea " was a challenging subject but I had seen flowers being painted many times and had a few ideas on how to approach it. Petal by petal I worked my way through this composition and in the end I was quite pleased with my efforts.

I missed our puffin week at art class and so I decided to have a go at home. These little birds spend half their lives out at sea, I am told, venturing on to land to breed during the summer. They are full of character and fun to paint. This watercolour was painted on 140lb cold press paper using W&N and Daniel Smith tube paints. It measures 8x7ins.

This is the 3rd creative sea themed piece I have painted for my Husbands boat. The other two were seats for inside the cuddy, this mermaid hinged door is for the cuddy to shelter from rain. I found while painting this that I need to work on arms, hands and faces. It's been so many years since I have attempted to paint figures. I love painting with acrylic, I painted over many things that I wasn't happy with while creating this. That's the beauty of art, it will change and evolve with you, I neve

This watercolour shows a windswept bush growing on the highest part of the chalk hills of Sussex. By August the grassland has become pale and dry with the dark green foliage of the bush showing prominently on the hill side. This newest NP with the great variety of landscapes and attractive villages and towns is well worth a visit.

In this painting I wanted to convey the intensity of the fox's stare - that something has caught his eye and he is standing perfectly still watching it! I am always intrigued with how light hits a subject - this is why I love using oil paints as you can get such a depth of colour (I layer up the colours) and then the last few brushstrokes are the highlights and that is when the magic happens!

This is Lucy, one of our favorite family dogs. She is the sweetest pooch and loves to ride in the car, windows opened. She is in her glory as her ears catch the wind and almost smiles. I tried to capture her wonderful nature in this watercolor painting. I used very heavy pigment to give detail to her fur. I so love the many styles watercolor allows you to create. It is one of my favorite paintings because, I Love Lucy:)

This scene is from an early morning boat ride in New Hampshire - we had been here a couple of times over the last few years. It was so quiet and the water so still . The early morning fog had not lifted and people were still not stirring. I snapped a photo when I saw this scene with the colorful leaves framing the waiting boats. I knew I would paint this one day. It?s a 24 x 30 gallery wrapped oil painting. It can be seen at the Elizabethan Gallery.

This is a detail style (aka meticulous style) painting done on a sized shuen paper known as glass paper. Sumi ink and a small brush are used to draw the outlines and a layer of ink washes are added for shading. Then multiple layers of Chines colors are added until the colors reach the intensity you want.
